SAT Assistant Professor, Student Release Paper at Conference
Maurice Dawson, an assistant professor of Information Technology and Management within the School of Applied Technology at Illinois Institute of Technology, and Information Technology and Management student Andreas Vassilakos teamed with a scientific research assistant at the chair for information systems at the Technical University of Munich to publish and present a paper examining big dataās contributions to crime prevention.
The paper titled āTowards Crime Prevention Using Big Data Analytics: A Literature Review with an Explorative Case Studyā looked at research that has been published showcasing the use of big dataāwhich is defined, generally, as examining large sets of data to extract informationāin crime prevention. It also set up future research by offering a preliminary glimpse at the crime rate in ŗ£½ĒĀŅĀ×, and where the crime is happening within that city.
Dawson, Vassilakos, and TUMās Matthias Gotlieb, who served as a visiting researcher at Illinois Tech earlier this year, presented their paper at the 14th annual conference of the Midwest chapter of the Association for Information Systems on May 21ā22 at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
