BME Student Katerina Stojkova Receives Undergraduate Design and Research Award

Armour College of Engineering student, Katerina Stojkova (BME 4th Year), has received a Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Undergraduate Design and Research Award based on her research entitled Controlling Soluble Factor Gradients in a 3D Porous Biomaterial System, She will be recognized and present her work at the BMES Annual Meeting that will be held in Tampa, Florida from October 7-10, 2015.

Less than ten undergraduate students are selected to receive the award each year. As part of the award, she will receive free registration to the annual meeting, a cash prize, a plaque and recognition at the national meeting. Stojkova works in the laboratory of Eric Brey, Duchossois Leadership Professor and Professor of Biomedical Engineering, and is mentored by Banu Akar, a BME doctoral candidate. โ€œI am very grateful to have been given the opportunity to work in Dr. Breyโ€™s lab to gain great knowledge beyond what books teach us and get real hands on experience in the field of tissue engineering.โ€ said Stojkova, โ€œWorking in the research lab has helped me realize my professional goals.โ€
