This yearās Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Caltech Professor Frances H. Arnold and Professor George P. Smith of the University of Missouri and Sir Gregory P. Winter of the University of Cambridge, UK. Arnold was awarded this highest honor āfor the directed evolution of enzymesā and Smith and Winter āfor the phage display of peptides and antibodies.ā
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced that these laureates āused the same principles of evolutionāgenetic change and selectionāto develop proteins that solve mankindās chemical problems.ā
In this panel discussion, IIT Chemistry and Biology Professors will share their perspectives on the prize-winning work and discuss the present state and future relevance to the fields of chemistry and biology.
